A Day to Remember for Founder
"Find your true self and love under the stars"

Making a date with destiny to remember, Fiona launches the concept of Astrolovemates, the founder commemorating the day by visiting the hawk conservancy, who are also celebrating dreams come true.

For the hawk conservancy, have for the first time in over 150 years in Cholderton Valley, Near Andover in the UK, have Red Kites that they have bred themselves in two nest sites, resulting in the culmination of years of dedicated effort to get this species to breed at the Hawk Conservancy, so birds could be released to the wild.

After a wonderful BBQ lunch, a chat to Ashley, Tracey, Mike and Bob, I went on a tour of the many hawk and owl species, noting new arrivals and chicks, it became a truly amazing day starting with my first sighting of the flying display of white vultures who have only learnt to fly in the display team this year, fraggle the sea eagle performed magnificently succeeded in catching his fish from the pond set up and had a lovely plumage coat of feathers to sport, owls, hawks and black kites flying was a sight to behold, with the peregrine falcon soaring in the thermals over two hundred feet high a sight to behold that made you catch your breath as he flew into the golden sun, culminating in the flight of the baldheaded eagles through the valley and their magnificent calls upon landing.

Finally a visit to the red kite hide, to view via the powerful telescope one of the baby Red Kites on the hatch site, who had his back to us though cheekily seemed to turn his head as if he knew he was being watched - wow!!!! A most amazing moment.

Extracts from hawk talk written by Hawk Conservancy Director, Ashley Smith:

"In May 2003, one of our kite pairs laid two fertile eggs. As we were unsure of their parenting abilities, the eggs were put into the care of one of our broody chickens. The pressure on staff looking after the chicken and kite eggs was immense and there was a huge sigh of relief when both eggs finally started to pip and could be transferred to an incubator."

"It was truly magnificent to see Red Kites born and living in the valley where they had been absent for around 150 years. From the first day of release the kites have been monitored from dawn to dusk."

On July 25, the second set of kites were ready for release. Because the first release had been successful, various members of the media attended to witness the event. The project is the culmination of many years ambition and is one of the most exciting events to happen at the hawk conservancy."
