Extracts from diaries a tangential page posting sent to Fiona Stewart on Kings Queens Scotland Stewart, Earls of Moray, Lord Doune, Doones, Lorna Doone and posting by direct descendant of John Ridd - Steve Ridd born 1950 - who married Lorna Doone (vis a vis RD Blackmore Novel) - thanks for citing ranking me page 1 high on Dounes 'Doone' local.co.uk site in Scotland will post more of research later in 2004/5. See index site bar at top Stewart Genealogy. Can anyone reading this email me their versions for my research...am so far searching online TCP (the complete peerage), BP (burkes peerage), the complete scottish peerage and stinit.com however is hard extracting if anyone can say things in plain prose...have got the ridds genealogy account, ida brownes story, would like to get sight of the portrait of Ensor Doune and a copy of the Atholl leaflet true facts as have read a review version..if anyone can help interested from 1560's to 1700 on anything of above...and also of the aristocracy stewart, moray, huntly gordons, hamilton douglas, stewart atholls, lennoxes as all intermarried so much produced progeny etc : fiona@astrolovemates.co.uk

will post major links later here as have found out masses since diary and conversation with Ridd who did post the information he promised below, many thanks (other jests over time have said I was like a lorna doone or once in theatrical costume anne boleyn - who had a daughter Elizabeth I who unlike older portraits looked quite stuartlike when young and was mary queen of scots cousin - (Henry VII m Elizabeth of York children James IV scotland and Henry VIII England who father Elizabeth I via Ann Boleyn etc who was descended from 'tudor stuart' lineage

...also having a mysterious 'lord of manor' greatgrandfather which a medium of british psychic circle once said had a house in epping forest and also one that was hatfield house yet not hatfield house (still not deciphered that code yet) if anyone else understands deciphers that one do email me!!!

....and I think personally a beautiful photograph of my maternal grandmother (illegitimate daughter of mysterious brief union with this lord and the governess looks like a portrait of stewarts or a lorna doone...and often walking around Europe or scotland saw my eyes staring back at me disconcertedly from regal portraits or even warwick castle...so curiousity compelled me to look at genealogy wondering if I have some rogue aristocratic stewart genes somewhere which has fascinated me since a young child of my mysterious greatgrandfather lineage on maternal side as no records known by present generations (though many stewarts today are tentatively linked descended somehow from the stewart aristocracy)- the eyes hold the secret of the souls..: ..........................................

Forgotten Monarchy of Scotland by HRH Head of House Stewart Michael Stewart (1998) has some more accurate genealogy tables facts than most however like all sources accuracy is only so high.

The Doones were actually part of the Stewart clan and descended from the uterine brother of Mary Queen of Scots.

{Marriages/assassinations lead to}:
Two twin brothers, Sir James Stewart, Lord Doune and Ensor Stewart. James later became Second Earl of Moray, Lord Doune. Bad blood between these pair and Ensor believed that he was the older twin and thus rightful Lord Doune. James was assassinated... James Third Earl of Moray succeeded to Lord Doune title. Ensor Stewart died and succeeded by son, also Ensor. Ensor Stewart (now Sir Ensor) changed name to Ensor Doune to make claim on Doune Castle. For this was banished forcibly by 3rd Earl. Went to King in London but King not interested. Furious, Ensor (now calling himself Ensor Doone) and his family and retainers travelled 'towards the setting sun', ending up in a farmhouse near Oareford. From 1623 to 1699, when they were invited to return back to Scotland by the 5th Earl of Moray, the Stewarts (alias the Doones) lived in Lank Combe valley and terrified the countryside, pillaging, ravishing and murdering. 1684, Sir Ensor died and succeeded by eldest son, Charles Doone (aka Carver Doone).

James was assassinated agree...did she go the Countess of Moray remarry or die or what…where does James Third come from as she must be young if her husband only 26 so only produced a young child or so if any???

James Third Earl of Moray succeeded to Lord Doune title, where did he come from.

Ensor Stewart died…when did he die what date? (I assume his own lands were near or adjoining to his twin brother) and succeeded by son, also Ensor (when/where was ensor born and were there any other children).

Ensor Stewart when where was he born and to whom and who did he marry (now Sir Ensor when was he knighted what?)..

changed name to Ensor Doune to make claim on Doune Castle what date. For this was banished forcibly by 3rd Earl..what date please.

Where did Ensor Stewart or son live any connections with Johnstounburn House near Edinburgh???

From 1623 to 1699, when they were invited to return back to Scotland by the 5th Earl of Moray (where did he spring from what happened to the 3rd and 4th earls what was there names were they by marriage or birth or what???),

postscript we know in Scottish history that sons had their own name e.g Robert perhaps however were called their fathers so lots of james stewarts…and there was more than one line of aristocratic stewart too…and they virtually intermarried at times as a lack of aristocracy with different genes coming in via illegitimacy..

ANY MORE CLUES CAN YOU ANSWER ANY OF MY QUESTIONS after mine so can piece it together the history...

thanks...or where can I find the answers any of them...any clarification would help as never heard of the twin brother Ensor Stewart before...

if could untangle the web of intermarriages and mischief deeds in 1600s probably could untangle the novel too.....thanks
